Breathe in, breathe out

I've been doing a lot of panicking lately but it's nothing I don't expect of final projects especially my final project of Level 5 and my foundation course.
I have been very inspired this week even if I've been stressing out over deadlines!
It's very inspiring when someone comes in and answers questions that have been on your mind for sometimes, such as how do you get your work out there? how do you submit your collection to be displayed at a gallery? how does that effect our costs?
Jane Needham came in this week and spoke to us about "The Craft Centre and Design Gallery"in Leeds and how they process collections and what they're looking for, this is a great motivation for designer makers, it gives us a starting point and a great beginning for a business.

Anyway here are a few images I took today from my hand in and some  close-ups!(:

Final Piece, First Hand-in of My Second Year.

Well It's been a crazy few weeks, with deadlines and the New Year.
My project for my Second year in my Applied Arts degree has went down quite well
over-coming a lot of design flaws and I have loved every minute of experimenting with many techniques and playing in the workshops.
This is my final piece; I etched the handle and oxidized it and the main piece is layered copper, rose tinted acrylic and oxidized copper, it's riveted to the handle and slips into it for a more portable object.
You can interact with the piece and move each element, I wanted the collector of this object to feel an escape from their day and to feel nostalgic of a place and time.

By the way I upload a lot of my work to
I find Flickr a brilliant way to store photo's and creative work and it's a great community.

2014 update!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated my blog in a while, I hope everyone is well and having a great year so far.
I haven't done many personal posts lately,
so I thought I'd post some work I did during the Christmas/ New Year Break since I got some new art equipment and a lot more time and motivation from a few sleep-ins and a lot of food.
I'll be updating my blog with a post on my project and hand-in later on!
Here I used Water colours, fine liners and edited slightly on Photoshop

My new obsession is American Horror Story(can't be very healthy)
But I felt like having a go at another portrait because they're great for testing your proportional skills and even better I decided to use my prisma colours and go a bit mental with colour, because why not?
The original photo is below, a little off but I'm starting to improve.

And of course, I find food so fun to paint/draw
especially sushi because of all the colours and attention to detail!

Mixing it up.

This week I have thought long and hard about what I want to make after taking considerations into order, such as time, materials and my concept.
I have decided to stray away my shoulder/brooch piece.
I want the main part of my design to highlight my circular layered piece that shows the point of field perception I have developed from the start, I've decided to go along with making a collectors item, something that you could display, collect and exhibit.
I want people to look at this object and feel the same emotions you have when looking at a scenic view, or a nostalgic thought for a place or time in their life.
Here's my bay, I've arranged it and narrowed it down to samples I find interesting and that can relate to eachother, although I will be sticking to the circular shaped piece as the main feature I'm still working on what materials I'm wanting to use for the handle, I've researched into magnify glasses and vintage glasses with handles and believe I could do something quite unique with this object.

Here are a couple of the maquettes I've made this week using card and polypropylene.

Finding Inspiration: Visits part l

Hey guys so I've been collecting lots of inspiration this past week.
I went to The Biscuits Factory on Friday night and took a few photo's below for inspiration.
I only took images of objects that inspired me during my current project but there's some fantastic paintings there and beautiful larger sculptures.

Sketchbook post

Some of my work from my sketchbook I have done this Summer, I have cropped and edited some images of Photoshop for a cleaner look. Most of my work is mixed media, if anyone has any questions about any of the pieces and were wondering how I did any of them just drop a comment and I'll get back to you.

From Hand To Heart.

So far this project has been quite challenging, from taking something that's in my head and making it visual, forgetting what looks right and what looks pretty and just going along with my subconscious mind has been interesting to dip into. Down below are a few of the samples I've created this week, after Easter break(2 weeks) I will have 4 weeks to complete this project and a final piece.
In the holidays I'm going to start sketching ideas, collaging and being ready to get into the studios and make something amazing(: Talking with my tutors we came up with the concept of contrasting something real along side my work that's surreal and different.
